Artist Statement: Digital Dhokra – Bronze in the Byte Age

"Reimagining the 4,000-year-old tradition of Lost-Wax Casting through the lens of Neural Style Transfer."

My work bridges the millennia-old gap between the primal and the pixel. The Digital Dhokra Collection explores the intersection of ancient Indian tribal heritage—specifically the Bastar region's "lost-wax" metal casting tradition—and modern digital algorithms.

In their physical form, Dhokra sculptures are defined by their permanence: heavy, solid bronze, and intricate wax-thread latticework. Through digital intervention, I liberate these static figures from their metallic bounds. By applying diverse stylistic filters—ranging from the molten, spiritual energy of the "Astral" series to the rigid, archaeological fragmentation of the "Mosaic" and "Slate" works—I re-contextualize these tribal motifs for the digital age.

This collection is not merely about applying textures; it is an exploration of the sculpture's "soul." The "Midnight" series evokes the nocturnal rituals of the artisans, while the "Visionary" pieces visualize the trance-like rhythm of tribal drumming. By fusing the imperfect, hand-crafted touch of the Dhokra artisan with the precise chaos of the computer, I aim to show that traditional heritage is not a relic of the past, but a living, evolving entity capable of limitless transformation.
